Here is our spotlight on the curriculum for Spring 1. This is what we will be learning about in school this term.

Spring 1 Spelling Overview:

Please practice these spellings at home. Please support your child with their spellings; you can do this by encouraging them to practice on their own and within sentences. Make sure you mix the order of the spellings as they will not be read out in order on the day of the spelling test. Please remember capital letters should only be used for names and places and will be marked wrong if used incorrectly.

Spellings will be tested on a Friday.

Our theme for Autumn Term 2 is Street Detectives.

HOOK DAY!

This term we are learning all about how our local area - Woodville. We started off thinking about everything we know about Woodville and then became Historians and looked at what it was like in the past. We even found out is used to be called the Wooden Box!

We made some clay pots as we found out that clay is something Woodville is known for. Once our clay is dry we will be decorating our pots T.G Green very soon using the well-known colours. We also took a virtual tour around Sharpe's Pottery!

After dinner time we had to make hard hats and tools belts as we were going into the mines! We went down to the mines and had to extract coal from the ground using our picks (but don't worry we didn't really go down the pits!!). The classrooms were dark and we all got given chocolate chip cookies and a toothpick - we had to see how much coal (chocolate chips) we could get out the dirt (cookie) using our tools (toothpick).

This really got us thinking about how hard miners would work in the past and the horrible conditions they would work in.
